University-Industry Contracting Partnership (UIDP) “How To” Series

A primary project of The University-Industry Demonstration Partnership (UIDP) is the development of Contract Accords to address the commonly recognized areas in industry sponsored research agreements that typically require additional time for resolution. They are developed by a strategically assembled and dedicated UIDP Working Group composed of research administration professionals from academia and industry with the goal of significantly adding to the current body of knowledge.

The objective of these Contract Accords is for each party to gain a greater understanding of how these topics can be adequately addressed and allow for mutual benefit to each party during the negotiation of sponsored research agreements. These Contract Accords are the intellectual anchor for TurboNegotiator (TN), a software tool developed by the UIDP to facilitate the negotiation of research agreements between industry sponsors and universities.

An initial set of five Contract Accords was published in August 2009 and an additional five are in press. The UIDP views them as living documents, and is actively developing additional Contract Accords and updating the initial versions.
