Steps Required to Reopen Labs

Since shutdown began, the Office of the Vice President for Research has worked closely with a committee of associate deans for research to review and approve faculty requests to conduct research during the shutdown. These associate deans along with OVPR leadership meet daily to review and approve or request additional information on faculty submissions.

The gradual process to reopen labs will begin on May 20, 2020. Labs CANNOT reopen until they obtain approval from the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) to resume research activity. For information about the conditions that must be met before approval and all necessary documents for submission, visit Phased Reopening of Research at UConn and UConn Health.

Currently, all of the following elements are required in order to resume research activity at UConn, UConn Health, and regional campuses.

Individuals who do not follow safety protocols will not be allowed access to labs and research spaces—No Exceptions. Labs that are noncompliant will have sanctions imposed including and up to immediate shutdown of the laboratory.
